Bad Decisions by Belichick and Adams

A couple of bad decisions were made on Sunday. One, cost a team the game and the other, lost money for an owner. New England Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, made a big and wrong decision that should have been a easy decision. And for Tennessee Titans owner, Bud Adams, there is a right way to celebrate and then there is the wrong way to celebrate for an NFL owner.

When you need just two yards to get a first down and win a game, in most cases, you go for the win. However, when you are on your own 28-yard line with two minutes left on the clock, you need to punt the ball. Let your defense win the game for you. But, New England Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, decided to go for it on fourth down and the Patriots failed to pickup the first down. The Colts were able to get the ball back. From there, Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning, was able to move the Colts towards the goal line. The Colts won the game 35-34, when Manning threw a touchdown pass to wide-receiver, Reggie Wayne. Bill Belichick decision lost a game for the Patriots, but at least he did lose any money, like Titans owner, Bud Adams.

As a owner of a football team, when your team wins, you should be happy and celebrating with friends, family, members of your organization and your fans. But, you should not be making an obscene gestures to opposing fans. However, that is what Tennessee Titans owner, Bud Adams, did following the Titans victory over the Buffalo Bills. It might have felt good at the time, but you got to remember who you are and what you represent as an owner of the NFL. That doesn’t set a good example for kids and NFL fans in general. The NFL fined Bud Adams $250,000 for his obscene gesture. Hopefully Bud Adams has learned is lesson and how to celebrate the right way.

Brady is Back, Not Good for Bills

September 15, 2009 · Filed Under Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots · Comment

Monday night’s opening game featured the return of Tom Brady to the New England Patriots. But, just when you thought the Buffalo Bills were finally going to beat the New England Patriots, Tom Brady figured out a way to the lead the Patriots to a victory. With 50 left in the game, the Patriots scored a touchdown to win 25-24. Tom Brady was out for a year after being injured with torn knee ligaments, but made his comeback to football in a big way.

This game also featured Buffalo Bills new wide-receiver Terrell Owens. However, Owens was held to only 46-yards on 2 catches. For the Buffalo Bills, they played a good game, but it was not enough. In the end, the Bills did not make the plays they needed to do to win the game. You never want to give Tom Brady and Patriots some time on the clock because if you do, they will beat you. And that’s what happens last night, when Tom Brady found Benjamin Watson for a 16-yard touchdown pass to get the victory.

T.O. Stands Up for Michael Vick

July 27, 2009 · Filed Under Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, NFL · Comment

On Sunday morning, after training camp practice, Buffalo Bills wide-receiver, Terrell Owens, said that the NFL commissioner should let former NFL quarterback, Michael Vick, back into the NFL. Terrell Owens said that Michael Vick had paid his debt and should not be punished any further.

Owens said, “It’s almost like kicking a dead horse in the ground. … The guy’s already suffered so much. And to add a four-game suspension on a two-year prison sentence, that’s ridiculous.”

It seems odd for one controversial NFL player to stand up for another controversial player. But, is Terrell Owens correct when he says that Vick should be allowed to play right away and should not be suspended?

T.O. makes a good point, but the NFL needs to do something. If you are going to set standards for your players and if they violate those conditions, then they should be punished for their actions and not be rewarded. Players need to keep in mind that playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right.

Owens Finally Arrives to Voluntary Mini-Camps

April 9, 2009 · Filed Under Buffalo Bills, NFL · Comment

The phrase “better late than never,” most of times, is a good thing, but when everyone is watching your every move, being late is not. Buffalo Bills wide-receiver Terrell Owens finally showed up to the Bills off-season voluntary workout sessions. If T.O. would had started the workout sessions from the beginning, would this be an issue?

In talking to reports, Terrell Owens mentioned how he wasn’t the only player not to make it voluntary mini-camps and he is right. However, since we are talking about T.O., whether T.O. showed up on time or a few weeks later, of course there was going to be a buzz around Terrell Owens. It is what it is. Owens said that this will help motive him and hopefully for the Buffalo Bills, it will.

Owens Signs with Buffalo, Was this the Right Decision?

March 9, 2009 · Filed Under Buffalo Bills, NFL · Comment

While the Dallas Cowboys are moving into a new direction, so are the Buffalo Bills. This past Saturday, the Bills signed controversial wide-receiver, Terrell Owens. However, was this the right decision for the T.O. and the Buffalo Bills?

Terrell Owens signed a $6.5 million dollars deal with the Buffalo Bills for one year. Bills owner, Ralph Wilson said in a statement, “This is a very exciting day for the Buffalo Bills.” T.O. was glad to be with the Bills and said, “I must move on, and it’s another beginning for me.”

The Buffalo Bills have not made the playoffs since the 1999 season. Not since the Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith years, have the Buffalo Bills been a dominate team in the NFL. The AFC East division has been mostly dominated by the New England Patriots.

The Bills needs to find a way to stop this trend from continuing. Is T.O. the answer, maybe not, but this move could be a start on making the Bills a big time offensive threat. If that happens, with great defensive play, you never know what could happen in this league, just ask the Arizona Cardinals.

Does the arrival of Terrell Owens to Buffalo make the Bills a better team? On paper, yes he does, but the game is not played on paper. So, will T.O. be a distraction for the Buffalo Bills, on the field and off the field? Will T.O. cause problems for another quarterback? Hopefully for the Bills, they won’t regret this decision, only time will tell, so stay tuned.

NFL Players and Firearms Don’t Mix

February 16, 2009 · Filed Under Buffalo Bills, NFL · Comment

Once again, another NFL player is in trouble with the law. Last Wednesday, Buffalo Bills running back, Marshawn Lynch was arrested in Culver City, California, for possession of a concealed firearm. You would think since the Plaxico Burress incident in December, when the New York Giants wide-receiver was arrested on two felony charges after accidentally shooting himself that all NFL players would learn their lesson. This is not the case.

One week, Marshawn Lynch is playing in the Pro-Bowl and then the next week, he gets arrested on felony charges for carrying a firearm. What is wrong with this picture? Sure, you have the right to protect yourself. But, if you need to be somewhere where you need to protect yourself, maybe you should not be there, especially, when you’re an NFL player making millions of dollars. It’s a great privilege to be able to play in the NFL. Hopefully for Marshawn Lynch, he will learn from this, but only time will tell.

Broncos Lose Another Chance to Win the AFC West Title

December 21, 2008 · Filed Under Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers · Comment

At the beginning of last Sunday, the Denver Broncos just needed one win or one San Diego Chargers loss to clinch the AFC West title and go to the playoffs. However, last week, the Broncos would lose to the Carolina Panthers and the Chargers would win their game, denying the Broncos an opportunity. So, on this Sunday, since the Chargers had already beat the Tampa Buccaneers earlier in the day, all the Denver Broncos had to do was to win against the Buffalo Bills at home to win the division. But, it was not meant to be, as the Broncos loss 30-23 to the Bills.

The Broncos were winning this game and were in control early in the 1st half. The Broncos were even leading in this game, 13-0. However, the Buffalo Bills were able to get back into this game and took the lead 16-13. In the 2nd half, the Bills and Broncos exchanged leads and were tied at 23, but in the 4th quarter, the Bills were able to score the game winning touchdown. On defense, the Buffalo Bills were able to stop the Broncos twice from scoring towards the end of the game to get the victory. Despite the fact that Jay Culter threw for 359 yards and ran for two touchdowns, he could not get the game tying touchdown, as the Broncos were denied another chance to clinch the division.

Now, the Denver Broncos have to travel to San Diego and need to win against the Chargers to win the AFC West. For the Broncos, they have not made the plays they need to help them win in the last two games. The Broncos will need to play a complete game to beat the Chargers. Can the Denver Broncos get a victory against the Chargers without the help of a blown call by Referre Ed Hochuli, we shall see.

Will the Broncos Lose & Chargers Win this Sunday?

On December 28, the Denver Broncos will play against the San Diego Chargers. The question for the Chargers vs. Broncos match-up will be, is this game going to be for the AFC West title? Well, if the San Diego Chargers win this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Buffalo Bills were able to beat the Denver Broncos in Denver then the last game of the season will be for the AFC West title.
