NFL Week 1: Great Debuts and Some Things Never Change
Brett Favre is back. Minnesota Vikings new leader, Brett Favre, had an great debut for the Vikings. With the help of Adrian Peterson, who had 180-yards rushing and scored 3-touchdowns, the Vikings beat the Cleveland Browns 34-20. Favre threw for 110-yards and one touchdown. Also, New York Jets new rookie QB, Mark Sanchez, was another player who had a impressive debut as well. Mark Sanchez through for 272-yards and had one touchdown to lead the Jets to a victory over the Houston Texans, 24-7.
One player that did not have a great debut was Chicago Bears QB, Jay Cutler. Even though the Bears had a chance to win the game, Jay Cutler’s 4-interceptions, including his last interception with 58-seconds left, would doomed the Bears and helped the Green Bay Packers get the victory, 21-15. And for the Detroit Lions, it was not a good day as well.
The Detroit Lions continued their regular-season losing streak to 18 games. The Lions lost to the New Orleans Saints, 45-27. Drew Brees looked awesome, throwing for 358-yards and 6 TDs. And for the Cincinnati Bengals, lady luck was not on their side. With 11 seconds left in the game, Denver Broncos wide-receiver, Brandon Stokley, caught a deflected pass and scored a 87-yard touchdown to help the Broncos beat the Bengals, 12-7 on an amazing and unbelievable play.
With great debuts from Brett Favre and Mark Sanchez, it was another great weekend of NFL football. But, for teams like the Lions, hopefully they can end their losing streak. But, only time will tell.
4 Head Coaches Out After Season Ends
After the 2008 NFL season ended, four teams deiced that it was time to move forward and look towards the future. The New York Jets, Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns had very disappointing season and moving in a new direction was probably the best thing to do. But, the shocking was the firing of coach Mike Shanahan of the Denver Broncos.
Mike Shanahan coached the Denver Broncos for 14 seasons and won 2 Super Bowls. However, following the collapse of this season, in which the Broncos missed the playoffs after losing to the San Diego Chargers last Sunday, the Broncos probably thought it was time for a change. Was this the right move for the Broncos?
For the Detroit Lions, after losing every game, something had to change. Coach Rod Marinelli did his best he could with the players he had, but a fresh start for the Lions will hopefully work out in the end for them. We shall see. As for the Cleveland Browns, coach Romeo Crennel’s teams had so many high expectations, but for one reason or another, it was just not meant to be.
The New York Jets were looking good this season at 8-3. Plus, the Jets had the great Bret Farve on their team and seemed to be in contention to make the playoffs and a possible Super Bowl birth. But, the Jets went 1-4 in their last 5 games and missed the playoffs. This was probably not expectable for Jets management.
As we move onto the 2009 season, well see if these moves will make a differences. Changing head coaches can be a good thing, considering the success of teams like Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins this year. But, hiring the right head coach will be the biggest decision these teams make, as their dreams of being Super Bowl champion continues.
Favre Denies Informing Lions on Insights into Packers Playbook
Bret Favre was accused of contacting former Detroit Lions president Matt Millen and giving him insights into give the Packers playbook. However, Favre denies the reports and saying the accusations were ridiculous. Bret Farve also denies calling Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo. Jay Glazer wrote the story for Foxsports.com and defends what he wrote.
Whether or not Bret Farve gave the insight information to the Detroit Lions, it did not work. Green Packers beat the Detroit Lions 48-25. Although all this insider information sounds like a great soap opera, the players on the field determine the outcome in the game. Well, the Packers play the Detroit Lions at the end of the season, so we’ll see what happen as their rivalries continues.

How About Them Cowboys?
First, Adam “Pacman” Jones gets suspended again. “Pacman” Jones was involved in an altercation with one of his own bodyguards on October 7. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decided to suspend Jones for at a minimum of four games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
Second, Cowboys quarterback and leader, Tony Romo suffered an injury, in which he broke his right pinky finger on his throwing hand. Tony Romo will be out for at least four weeks.
Third, finally some good news? The Dallas Cowboys made a trade with the Detroit Lions for Roy Williams. The Cowboys traded away their first-round draft choice, a third and a sixth in exchange for Roy Williams and the Lions’ seventh-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Can Roy Williams work with T.O.? Or will Terrell Owens become an unstoppable force now that he has an good play maker on the other side of the field?
How will these distractions affect the Dallas Cowboys, as they go through the season? After losing their leader, Tony Romo, to an injury and now they lose Jones due to suspension, are the Dallas Cowboys in trouble? The Dallas Cowboys have some tough games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins and the defending champions, New York Giants.
Only time will tell, stay tuned!

Detroit Lions Fire GM Matt Millen
After years of losing, the Lions finally made the decision to let General Manager Matt Millen go. The Lions started 0-3 this year and only have 31 wins along with 84 loses under Matt Millen. That’s not getting it done.
The real question is, what took so long? Matt Millen was a great player, but not all great players can be great General Managers. You can’t keep on firing head coaches, having different quarterbacks, drafting receivers almost every year and expect to win in this league.
Now its time for the Detroit Lions to move forward. Hopefully for them, the Lions will find the right person, who can make good football decisions to help the Detroit Lions make the playoffs in the near future.
