Sad Day for Chargers Fans, Chargers release L.T.

LaDainian Tomlinson Says Goodbye to San Diego

After nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers, the Chargers released the best running in Chargers history, LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson was going to get a $2 million roster bonus in March. However, due to Tomlinson injuries and age, it was time for the San Diego Chargers to move on. Too bad for Chargers fans who did not get to see L.T. win a Super Bowl championship with the Chargers.

Under the LaDainian Tomlinson era, the San Diego Chargers had their chances to get the Super Bowl with playoff runs in 2004 and 2006-09. But, it was not meant to be. And now, for L.T., he will never get that chance as a San Diego Chargers.

However, as Chargers fans look back at

greatness as a San Diego Chargers, his best moment was probably when he broke the NFL touchdown record against the Denver Broncos in 2006. L.T. scored 28 touchdowns that year. Another milestone for L.T., was on December 2, 2007. Tomlinson passed Walter Payton on the all time rushing touchdown list, with his 111th career rushing touchdown, against the Kansas City Chiefs. But, of course for Chargers fans, the best moments of Tomlinson career is the Chargers 13th straight victories over their rivals, the Oakland Raiders.

It will be sad to see L.T. in another uniform next year, but that is the business of the NFL. Hopefully, for LaDainian Tomlinson and the San Diego Chargers it will all work out in the end. We shall see L.T. in the NFL Hall of Fame someday, but not yet.

Is It Over Between Tomlinson and the Chargers?

February 5, 2010 · Filed Under San Diego Chargers · Comment

It is not official and there has been no word from the San Diego Chargers organization about the future of LaDainian Tomlinson with the Chargers. However, LaDainian Tomlinson was quoted in the San Diego Union-Tribune saying,

“I’m not coming back,” Tomlinson said. “I don’t believe I’ll be back in San Diego. I’ve accepted it. I’ve spent nine years of my life here, pretty much my youth. I gave the organization everything I have. I enjoyed the community. But there is a part I won’t miss. The football part is fun. But the business part sucks. I won’t miss that.”

LaDainian Tomlinson is still under contract for two more years. But, will the Chargers pay him 5 millions dollars next year, even though is productivity has gone down? Who’s know at this point. However, it will be hard to see LaDainian Tomlinson is a different uniform. But, until things are official, anything can still happen. Hopefully, L.T. will remain with the San Diego Chargers, but only time will tell what the San Diego Chargers decide to do with LaDainian Tomlinson, so stay tuned.

42-17 Christmas Blow Out for the Chargers

December 26, 2009 · Filed Under San Diego Chargers, Tennessee Titans · Comment

Friday’s Christmas Day game for the San Diego Chargers and the Tennessee Titans was a big game for both teams. The Chargers wanted to get a first-round bye in the playoffs and the second seed in the AFC. But, standing in their way was the Tennessee Titans, who were trying to get into the playoffs themselves. Unfortunately for the Titans, Philip Rivers was on fire and lead the Chargers to victory. The Chargers beat the Titans 42-17.

Chargers quarterback, Philip Rivers, threw for 264-yards and two touchdown passes. Rivers lead the Chargers up and down the field against a tough Tennessee Titans defense. Rivers leadership also lead to six touchdowns for the Chargers. Two of those touchdowns were scored by LaDainian Tomlinson and other three were scored by Darren Sproles. Of course, three turnovers by Titans quarterback, Vince Young, did not help the Titans at all.

If the Tennessee Titans are going to be in the playoffs next year, Vince Young needs to play better than he did in this game. He cannot turn the ball over because it can be very costly and it was for the Titans in this game. The key for the Titans when they play against a high scoring offense, like the Chargers, is that they need to keep that offense off the field. And, by using running back, Chris Johnson, they can do it. But, even though Chris Johnson had 142-yards rushing, the Titans did not control the clock. They left too much time for Philip Rivers and the Chargers offense to do what they do best, scoring touchdowns.

For the San Diego Chargers, the earned the second seed in the AFC and more important, a first-round bye. The Chargers are on fire right now. They have now won 10 straight game and are looking for more against Washington next week and in the playoffs. But, not everything is great for the San Diego Chargers. On defense, the Chargers pass rush needs to be better. They don’t have to sack the opposing quarterback all the time, but they do need to put pressure on the QB to make him turn the over, like they did to Vince Young on Friday. Lets see if the Chargers can keep the winning streak going.

Successful Homecoming for L.T. and Coach Turner

December 14, 2009 · Filed Under Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers · Comment

When the San Diego Chargers played the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, it was like a reunion for both players and coaches alike. Chargers running back, LaDainian Tomlinson, was born and grew up in Texas. Tomlinson also played college football at TCU, (Texas Christian University, in Texas). For Chargers coach Norv Turner, he was the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator for two straight years during the Cowboys’ Super Bowl run in the early 1990s. He was also a contender for the Cowboys head coaching job in 2007. However, the Dallas Cowboys decided to hire coach Wade Philips instead.

Cowboys coach Wade Philips was the Chargers defensive coordinator from 2003–2006. Coach Philips was successful in helping the Chargers get into the playoffs during those years, which helped him get the job as Cowboys coach. Finally, for Cowboys defensive end, Igor Olshansky, he was drafted by the Chargers in 2004. Olshansky played for the Chargers for four years. Olshansky signed with the Cowboys in 2009.

But, unfortunately for the coach Wade Philips and Igor Olshansky, they could not get the win over their former employer. The San Diego Chargers beat the Dallas Cowboys, 20-17. L.T. was able to score a touchdown during the game and Coach Turner got another win under his belt as the Chargers head coach. What a great homecoming game for both Tomlinson and coach Norv Turner.

Chargers Keep on Rolling, Chargers Beat Browns

December 6, 2009 · Filed Under Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers · Comment

For the San Diego Chargers, it’s now about playoff positioning. But, standing in their way on Sunday was the Cleveland Browns. And, standing in LaDainian Tomlinson way of 8th place in the NFL rushing list was Hall of Fame running back and Cleveland Browns’ own, the great Jim Brown. The Chargers were able to accomplished both of their goals. First, L.T. was able to pass Jim Brown and most importantly, the San Diego Chargers beat the Cleveland Browns 30-23.

But, this was a tough game for the Chargers in the beginning. The Chargers were without Shawne Merriman, Luis Castillo and Eric Weddle on defense, so the other players on defense needed to step up. However, the Browns were able to score a touchdown on their opening drive. Even though the Chargers took the lead 10-7, the Browns lost their momentum in the 2nd quarter when the Chargers defense stopped the Browns at the Chargers 3-yard line.

Shaun Phillips sacked Browns quarterback, Brady Quinn, and caused him to fumbled the ball. The ball was recovered by Chargers defensive end, Jacques Cesaire. The Chargers were then able get on a roll after that. The Chargers scored 27 unanswered points before the Browns scored again. Even though the Broncos were able score 16 points in the fourth quarter, it was not enough as the Chargers were able to close out the Cleveland Browns and win their seven straight game.

For San Diego Chargers running back, LaDainian Tomlinson, this was a special moment. L.T. passed Jim Brown in the NFL rushing list and the moment was made even more special as Jim Brown was in the stadium to see L.T. pass his record. After the game, Jim Brown would then congratulate LaDainian Tomlinson.

This was another tough loss for the Cleveland Browns. But, it’s just one of those season for the Cleveland Browns. The Browns cannot keep any momentum going and have now lost 11 games this season. The Cleveland Browns just need to regroup and get ready for the next game.

As for the San Diego Chargers, they needed this win to keep up with Cincinnati for second place in the AFC playoff race. Plus, the Chargers victory kept them one game above the Broncos in the AFC West division. Now, the Chargers have to get ready to play against Dallas next week and then Cincinnati after that. Lets see how the Chargers play against potential playoff teams, so stay tuned.

Chargers take Advantage of Chiefs Miscues and Win Big

November 30, 2009 · Filed Under Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers · Comment

After taking over first place in the AFC West, the San Diego Chargers kept their momentum going by beating the Kansas City Chiefs 43-14 on Sunday. In this game, the Chargers welcomed back former Chargers wide-receiver, Chris Chambers and Chargers running back, LaDainian Tomlinson keeps on moving up the NFL rushing list. However, in the end, it was costly turnovers that lost the game for the Chiefs and the Chargers took advantage.

A few weeks ago, the Chargers released wide-receiver, Chris Chambers, due to poor production. Chambers was then picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs. For Chris Chambers, this was a revenge game for him. Chambers had seven catches for 70-yards and did score an early touchdown for the Chiefs to tie the game at 7-7. However, it was not enough because the four turnovers by the Chiefs doomed the them and they could not recover falling behind 35-7 before scoring their last touchdown.

Chargers running back, LaDainian Tomlinson, keeps on moving up the NFL rushing charts and is in 10th place. L.T. moved past Marcus Allen and Edgerrin James. L.T. now has 12,257 rushing yards and is looking to pass Marshall Faulk for 9th place. In this game, Tomlinson played a good game for the Chargers scoring two touchdowns. Also, for the San Diego Chargers, tight-end Antonio Gates had a great game gaining 118-yards and scoring two touchdowns as well.

As for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chiefs defense could not keep the Chargers off the field and the Chargers offense seemed to score at will. The Chiefs had some momentum going this game with victories over the Raiders and the defending champions, Steelers. But, the Chiefs could not get anything going against the Chargers. If the Chiefs are going to beat a team like the Chargers, who are on a roll right now, they need to play a perfect game and in this game, they did not.

For the San Diego Chargers, this was a good victory. The Chargers have won their sixth straight game and are 5-1 in the division, which is important for playoff positioning. At 8-3, the Chargers have to keep their momentum going as they go into Cleveland. The Chargers need to focus on winning their division and also at times, keep watch of their future hall of fame running back, LaDainian Tomlinson, as he moves up the NFL rushing chart. Only time will tell how far L.T. will go, so stay tuned.

Chargers Beat Eagles 31-23 and Win their Fourth Straight Game

November 15, 2009 · Filed Under Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers · Comment

After winning their third straight game, the San Diego Chargers were looking to get a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to keep up with Denver in the AFC West division. The Chargers got off to a big 28-9 lead, at the end of the 3rd quarter. However, the Eagles were able to comeback, but it was a little too late as the Chargers beat the Eagles, 31-23.

LaDainian Tomlinson had a great game for the Chargers. L.T. ran for 96-yards and had two touchdowns. Philip Rivers also had a great game too. Rivers threw for 231-yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers offense were able to get into a good rhythm despite the tough Eagles defense and giving up two sacks.

But, what won the game for the San Diego Chargers, was the play of the Chargers defense. Even though the Chargers defense gave up 450-yards and two late touchdowns to Eagles quarterback, Donovan McNabb, it was the Chargers defense holding the Eagles to three early field goals instead of letting the them score touchdowns that was the deciding factor.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, kicking field goals instead of scoring touchdowns, will not win you games. When you get close to the goal line, you got to score touchdowns. One other problem for the Eagles is the inability to run the ball. If the Eagles were able to run the ball maybe they could have run the ball in for a touchdown rather than trying to throw the ball for a touchdown all the time. The Eagles are going to need to overcome this issue if they expect to go deep into the playoffs.

As for the San Diego Chargers, they need to put more pressure on the opposing team’s quarterback. You cannot have a quarterback throw all over your defense. The Chargers defense played good enough to beat the Eagles, but they need to play better if they are going to beat the Broncos next week. The good news for the Chargers is that they find themselves in a first place tie with the Denver Broncos. Credit to the Chargers for coming back from being 2-3 to 6-3. Now, the Chargers have a big game next Sunday. Lets see who will take control of the AFC West division next week when the Chargers go to Denver.
