Super Win for Brees and the Saints

February 8, 2010 · Filed Under Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints · Comment

Coming into the Super Bowl, for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, it seemed like a tough challenged to take on the mighty Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning. However, even though the Saints were down 10-0 early, the Saints were not going to be denied. The Saints fought back and made the plays the need to do to beat the Colts, 31-17 to win Super Bowl XLIV.

Credit to the Saints for going for the win and not playing too conservative. Late in the 2nd quarter, the Saints should have kicked the field goal when they were down by the goal line. But, they decided to go for it and did not make. However, on the opening kick of the 2nd half, the Saints went for a onside kickoff and the Saints would get the ball. In the end, it would all payoff for the New Orleans Saints. The Saints played with an attitude that they were not going to lose. For the Saints, it starts and ends with Drew Brees.

Saints quarterback and leader, Drew Brees, played great in this game for the Saints. Brees threw for 288-yards and two touchdowns and he also won the Super Bowl MVP. The Saints would seal the game when Saints cornerback, Tracy Porter, scored on a 74-yard touchdown interception off Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning started off hot for the Colts. But, Manning final interception was costly and would eventually lose the game. The Indianapolis Colts did all the could to win, but it was not enough. The Saints just wanted it more.

As for the New Orleans Saints, this was a great win for not only the Saints players, coaches and the rest of the Saints organization, but for the people of New Orleans. From struggles of Hurricane Katrina to their team winning the Super Bowl, this was a great day in New Orleans’ history. Now, the Saints can look back and feel good knowing that the New Orleans Saints are the 2010 NFL Super Bowl Champions and no other team can say that.

Another NFC Championship loss for Favre

January 24, 2010 · Filed Under Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints · Comment

Brett Favre had a chance to lead the Minnesota Vikings to victory over the New Orleans Saints in a very exciting NFC Championship game. However, it was not meant to be. The big question for the Vikings is why didn’t Brett Favre just run ball to gain a couple more yards to give his kicker a better opportunity to kick the game winning field goal?

Instead, Favre tried to throw the ball across the field, which was intercepted by the Saints. Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings offense would never get a chance to see the ball again. After time expired in regulation, the Saints won the coin toss to get the ball first in overtime. After the Saints drove down the field, Saints kicker, Garrett Hartley, won the game on a 40-yard field goal, sending the New Orleans Saints to the Super Bowl.

Two years ago, Brett Favre had an opportunity to lead his old team, the Green Bay Packers to the Super Bowl, but like in this game, Favre threw an interception, which cost the Packers a victory. Now, for Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings, they have to look forward to next year. The big question for the Minnesota Vikings is will Favre return next season. Only time will tell, but this was a costly missed opportunity for the Favre and the Vikings. For the New Orleans Saints, they have a chance to win it all, the Super Bowl. But, standing in there way are the Colts. We shall see if Brees can lead his team to victory again, so stay tuned.

Saints Knockout Warner and then the Cardinals from the Playoffs

January 19, 2010 · Filed Under Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints · Comment

When New Orleans Saints defensive end, Bobby McCray, hit Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kurt Warner, in the 2nd quarter after an interception by the Saints that was a shot heard around the world. Kurt Warner would be out of the game until the second half. Credit to Kurt Warner for coming back later in the game, but it was just one of those games for the Cardinals. The Arizona Cardinals could get nothing going in the second half. Drew Breeze looked sharp and the Saints blow out the Cardinals, 45-14.

And, if that was not bad enough, New Orleans Saints running back, Reggie Bush, played an awesome game for the Saints. Reggie Bush did what he does best, making moves, avoiding tackles and scoring touchdowns. Including a 83-yard punt return for a touchdown in the 4th quarter to seal the victory for the Saints.

Now, for the Arizona Cardinals, they have to look forward to next year. But, Kurt Warner needs to figure out whether or not he will return for another season. After, the Cardinals will then need to focus on their defense. The Cardinals gave up too many points in the playoffs. As for the New Orleans Saints, they will host the NFC Championship game next week. Lets see if Drew Breeze can lead the Saints where the never been before, the Super Bowl.

NFL Week 1: Great Debuts and Some Things Never Change

Brett Favre is back. Minnesota Vikings new leader, Brett Favre, had an great debut for the Vikings. With the help of Adrian Peterson, who had 180-yards rushing and scored 3-touchdowns, the Vikings beat the Cleveland Browns 34-20. Favre threw for 110-yards and one touchdown. Also, New York Jets new rookie QB, Mark Sanchez, was another player who had a impressive debut as well. Mark Sanchez through for 272-yards and had one touchdown to lead the Jets to a victory over the Houston Texans, 24-7.

One player that did not have a great debut was Chicago Bears QB, Jay Cutler. Even though the Bears had a chance to win the game, Jay Cutler’s 4-interceptions, including his last interception with 58-seconds left, would doomed the Bears and helped the Green Bay Packers get the victory, 21-15. And for the Detroit Lions, it was not a good day as well.

The Detroit Lions continued their regular-season losing streak to 18 games. The Lions lost to the New Orleans Saints, 45-27. Drew Brees looked awesome, throwing for 358-yards and 6 TDs. And for the Cincinnati Bengals, lady luck was not on their side. With 11 seconds left in the game, Denver Broncos wide-receiver, Brandon Stokley, caught a deflected pass and scored a 87-yard touchdown to help the Broncos beat the Bengals, 12-7 on an amazing and unbelievable play.

With great debuts from Brett Favre and Mark Sanchez, it was another great weekend of NFL football. But, for teams like the Lions, hopefully they can end their losing streak. But, only time will tell.

Revenge is Sweet for Breeze, Chargers Lose Two Straight

October 26, 2008 · Filed Under New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers · Comment

The San Diego Chargers find new ways to lose games. This week it was penalties and their lack of pass rush that would help the New Orleans Saints win 37-32. In front of over 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium in London, this was an exciting game from beginning to end. For Saints quarterback Drew Breeze, this was a victory was sweet and is something he can be very proud of. Breeze was able to get a victory over his former team, the San Diego Chargers. However, for the Chargers, despite being behind in this game, they still had their chances, but fell short.

Drew Breeze had a great game and throwing for 339 yards and 3 touchdowns. However, when the Chargers had the ball, they were able to move the ball on the Saints defense. Questions about LaDainian Tomlinson’s toe have been answered. LT is back and was able to rush for 105 yards and had one touchdown. Even Antonio Gates played a great game and scoring one touchdown as well. Philip Rivers was also able to throw over 300 yards, but was not even in the end.

The Chargers had missed opportunities in this game. Rivers had Vincent Jackson open, which should have been a touchdown, but Jackson let the ball slip out of his hands. Also, Chargers Safety Eric Weddle had a interception, but was overturned by a coaches challenged. A fumble by Darren Sproles in the 2nd quarter would lead to Saints touchdown. And, a crucial interception by Philip Rivers towards the end of the game would doom the Chargers.

The penalties in this game was terrible for the Chargers. Committing 14 penalties for 134 yards is unacceptable. But, the biggest issue for the Chargers was the lack of pass rush once again. Drew Breeze did not get sack in this game. It’s obvious that the Chargers defense is missing Shawne Merriman. His impact and intensity on this team and defense is no longer there and Chargers defense do not have any answers. Teams are doubling Shaun Phillips and the other guys are struggling to get to the quarterback.

During the bye-week, the Chargers need to change the way they play defense because what they are doing is not working. The San Diego Chargers are now 3-5. The numbers don’t lie. The Chargers are struggling and need to fix it fast or this team could miss the playoffs. The San Diego Chargers have the potenials to be great, but they need to prove it on the field. Hopefully the bye-week came at the right time and the Chargers will go into the second half of the season ready to make their playoff run. We shall see.

Chargers vs. Saints Preview: Rivers vs. Breeze

October 23, 2008 · Filed Under NFL, New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers · Comment

Well, this has been 3 years in the making. Philip Rivers and San Diego Chargers will face former Chargers quarterback and now New Orleans Saints QB, Drew Breeze. Does this game mean more to Philip Rivers, Drew Breeze or San Diego Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith?

A quick look back at Chargers history: Drew Breeze was injured in the last game in 2005 season. The following year, the Chargers decided to go with their 2004 No. 1 draft pick, Philip Rivers. The Chargers would release Drew Breeze. Breeze would move on and to play for the New Orleans Saints. Since then, both Rivers and Breeze have had success with their respective teams.

But, now is the long awaited meeting between the Chargers and Saints starts this Sunday. Of course, this game was suppose to be played in New Orleans, however, the NFL moved this game to Wembley Stadium in London. Both teams are coming off loses, but this is an important game for both teams.

For the Saints, playing in a tough division, this is a critical game for them. The Saints need to win to stay within playoff race. Of course, for Drew Breeze, this game is personal. By winning, Breeze can prove to the Chargers that they made the wrong decision. Well, at least for one game.

But, for the Chargers, this is an important game because they are trying to keep up with the Denver Broncos in the division. For Philip Rivers, this game is more of a competition between both players. For GM A.J. Smith, he believes that he made the right football decision for the Chargers organization. After Rivers and Breeze careers are over then we’ll all know who made the right choice.

Now, the time for the discussion of who should have been the Chargers quarterback is over. Rivers is the leader of the San Diego Chargers and Drew Breeze is the leader of the New Orleans Saints.

Game time starts 10:00 A.M. from London. Find out who wins! CHARGERS vs. SAINTS! Bring it on!
