Distraction for Chargers, Vincent Jackson arrested for DUI
San Diego Chargers Wide-Receiver Vincent Jackson was arrested on suspicion of Driving under the Influence at 2am Tuesday morning and he was released later at 6am. Vincent Jackson’s arrest will not affect his status for playing this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, this was bad timing for the Chargers because this situation could be a huge distraction.
Vincent Jackson released a statement saying:
“Yesterday I was stopped by an officer. I don’t think any charges will be filed as a result of the stop. In the event they are, I look forward to clearing my name and proving my innocence.”
Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith also released a statement stating:
“We’re aware of the off-the-field issue involving Vincent. Obviously we’re disappointed. We take these issues very seriously. Moving forward, we will monitor the situation and have no further comment.”
Regardless of what happens from here in regards to this issue, with the Chargers playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday in the AFC Divisional round, this distraction was the last thing the Chargers needed. We’ll see if this distraction will affect the Chargers or Vincent Jackson’s play on the field on Sunday.
